San Diego Water

How does it get here??
San Diego gets its water from the Metropolitan Water District. There are two sources that the Metropolitan Water District buys from, Colorado River and the Sacramento River-San Francisco Bay-Delta. Must of the water is from the Colorado River, which is imported into one of the three treatment plants. South San Diego gets water from the Otay Filtration Plant, Central San Diego's water comes from Alvarado Filtration Plant located at Lake Murry, and north San diego gets water from the Miramar Filtration Plant. The water is transferred to by via pipelines operated by CWA. A small portion of our water comes to us as treated, import water, purchased from the Skinner Treatment Plant in Rancho California.
How will there be enough water to keep up with the growing population.
All imported water is currently obtained from MWD, but a historic water transfer agreement with the (IID) is expected to begin in 2002 with an initial delivery of 20,000 acre-feet. By 2009, the transfer will bring up to 200,000 acre-feet of Colorado River water annually to the Authority's service area.
Why is San Diego water so scarce
Water is a scarce recource in San Diego because it is a Semi-arid region receiving only about 9" of rainfall per year
